TECH TIP
TECH TIP NO. TT64.001
DATE: November 23, 1992
BOARD TYPE: BABY EISA, Series-64
BOARD REVISION: B1
BOARD FREQUENCY: 20 MHz, 25 MHz, 33 MHz, or 50 MHz
ORIGINATOR: Rex Wade
RELEASED BY: Documentation Control
SUBJECT: Using the American Megatrends VGA Card
PROBLEM: If BCLK Stretching is enabled in ADVANCED CHIP SET
SETUP in AMIBIOS Setup and the American Megatrends Series 46 Fast View EISA
Super VGA Adapter Card is used, it will cause the system to hang.
REASON: This problem is caused by the way that the OPTi EISA
chipset handles the BCLK stretching. Even though the OPTi EISA chipset
complies with EISA specifications, the result is that the VGA card drives
EXRDY# inactive and the system hangs.
SOLUTION: The BIOS default and Power-on default for the BCLK
stretching option is disabled. BCLK stretching should not be enabled if the
American Megatrends Series 46 Fast View EISA Super VGA Adapter Card is used.
